| In
addition, the One-World Program sponsors special trips to other
cities -- like New York, Philadelphia, and historic Virginia
-- where interns see landmarks that make each area famous, meet
intellectuals who teach about the different urban centers, and
visit ethnic communities from their countries of origin. In
New York, for example, interns are taken to Broadway for theater
productions, on a boat to Ellis Island to climb the Statue of
Liberty and visit a museum celebrating immigration, to the Guggenheim
Museum for a guided tour of modern art, to the New York Times
where reporters from the world's premier newspaper discuss current
events, to Wall Street where financial moguls lecture on the
stock market, and for figure-skating lessons at Rockefeller
Center, to name just a few highlights from a long-weekend excursion
called the "Big-Apple Adventure." |
| All
outings are free to members of the One-World Internship Program
-- including hotel accommodations, entrance to galleries and
other institutions, and round-trip transportation in deluxe
buses with reclining seats and film facilities so students can
watch movies set in the places they are visiting. Even meals
are provided free of charge. In Manhattan, interns are treated
to delicatessen on the Upper East Side, Oriental food in Chinatown,
and a sampling of other ethnic treats for which New York is
famous. |
