Once
an intern is accepted into the Washington Internship Program,
he or she need not worry about getting a good placement. Our
commitment to students is such that we guarantee each person
a good job within his or her field. We only have interns apply
for positions they want, and staff members from the One-World
Washington Internship Program contact places in Washington
on the students' behalf and represents their candidacy. We
also get a contract for each intern in order to insure that
all internships are substantive. When applying to the Washington
Internship Program, you aren't gambling with your future.
We promise to get each individual a suitable, challenging
placement. If interns are unsure about what they would like
to do, counseling is provided to help with the selection.
Very rarely an intern is dissatisfied after starting an internship
in Washington, in which case a new position will be found
for the intern. To make sure that internships are as good
as they can be, staff members stay in contact with supervisors
and students throughout the internship to elicit constructive
feedback. Suggestions from supervisors are relayed to interns,
and student requests or complaints are presented to supervisors
so changes can be made that benefit everyone. Periodic progress
reports ensure that lines of communication remain open. The
director of the Washington Internship Program serves as a
liaison officer who presents the case of each intern to bosses
on the job. Whenever interns are timid about raising questions
or asking for favors, Dr. Bayer will represent the intern's
best interests.
